Manuka Honey Features

Even with minimal medical knowledge, many of us understand that from bacteria called staphylococcus (and especially one of its species - Staphylococcus aureus) a person does not have to wait for anything good, because no antibiotics are able to cope with it.

The local inhabitants of New Zealand have long known about the properties of honey from the fragrant flower of manuka and used it to heal wounds, scratches, and abrasions. And just recently, several decades ago, manuka and scientists showed interest in honey. They were able to detect in this product an antibacterial substance that can defeat Staphylococcus aureus and a host of other harmful bacteria.

This substance is called methylglyoxal (MGO), and the healing properties of manuka honey depend on its content in the product (this component is present in many varieties of honey, but only its amount is immeasurably less). This value can vary from 30 to 1000 mg per kilogram of honey.
